Husband testifies in carwash trial

TAMPA - McNeil Brown, who lost his wife Brenda two summers ago, testified about the perfect life they shared together - the traveling, their son, and just the simple things.

"Every single day of our married life, my wife woke up before me. She kissed me awake. It was a great way to come into consciousness," he recalled.

The jurors wiped their eyes. Even the carwash owner's wife cried as Brown recounted his life before his wife was run over at the Town N' Country carwash.

He told about going to the hospital and realizing that his wife, who was barely alive, wouldn't make it.

"She was so much a part of who I was, I feel like a part of me got stolen," he said.

Brown and his lawyers are demanding millions of dollars for the loss of his wife.

Brenda Brown died Mother's Day weekend 2005 when a carwash worker accidentally knocked an SUV he was cleaning into gear.

Gorman hosts fundraiser walk

EVENDALE - If all goes well, limited-mobility visitors to Gorman Heritage Farm will soon have a way to putter around the 120-acre historic working farm and educational center in Evendale.

The farm is hosting a fundraising walk to buy a multipassenger golf cart at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.

The $20 cost per person will go toward the purchase of the cart, which will take less mobile visitors around the rolling hills and meadows of Gorman Heritage Farm.

ESPN Mobile is Back, Baby

ESPN is relaunching their ESPN Mobile service, but this time it will sit happily underneath the Verizon megalords. One big possibility why the original ESPN Mobile flopped was because it was a standalone cellphone company, but now it will be packaged into Verizon and their V-Cast service. Welcome back, ESPN Mobile, I hope your new service prospers, but I for one won't be signing up (because I am a T-Mobile user), but I would consider it if I were already a Verizon customer. It will be officially launching in the coming months as part of the $15 per month V-Cast multimedia package. –Travis Hudson

Panda cubs named after web poll

EIGHTEEN Chinese baby pandas, blinking under the bright lights of live television, were presented with their names today with all the glitz and glamour of a movie premiere.

The 18 were paraded in little baby prams on state television after their names had been chosen by Internet surfers.

The naming of panda cubs is customary when they are weaned and released into their "nursery garden".

"The names should be civilised, standard, creative and able to highlight the panda's character as a national treasure," the website said on a special page where ideas could be submitted and votes cast.

The 18 cubs were born to 11 mothers which were raised in captivity in the southwestern province of Sichuan.

The names included Fuwa for baby No 9, the same as the name of the Beijing Olympics mascot, and meaning friendly.
